Job Description

We are looking for a passionate individual who values inclusion and equity, to become our Changemaker for Fine Art at Chelsea.
 
You must currently be a student, or have graduated in 22/23 from one of the following courses:
 
BA (Hons) Fine Art (at Chelsea)
Graduate Diploma Fine Art
MA Curating and Collections
MA Fine Art (at Chelsea)
 
Changemakers will work across CCW (Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon) in partnership with course teams to co-develop a student experience that is inclusive, equitable and compassionate, which includes decolonial and anti-racist curricula and teaching practices.

Salary: Hourly Paid – 4hrs p/wk during term-time & staff development weeks

Who do Changemakers report to?

The Progression and Attainment Manager, who works in CCW Academic Development and Strategy. 

What is the main purpose of Changemakers?

CCW Changemakers are employed to work in partnership with course teams to codevelop decolonial and anti-racist curricula and teaching practices, and a student experience that is inclusive, equitable and compassionate.

How and when do Changemakers work? 

Changemakers work online and in-person. 

There will be weekly team/one-on-one check-ins with their manager, along with various in person/online meetings with various teams across CCW (the times and locations will vary and may at times require travel to other campuses).


There is some room for the changemaker (in conversation with their manager and their Programme Directors) to decide when and how they work, though attendance at the regular team meetings is required, and absences may mean the post is reviewed. 


Some of the work will be at specific times (e.g. team meetings, training sessions), and other work can be completed at independently negotiated times (e.g. reading and replying to messages, developing materials, commenting on course handbooks).

What are the duties and responsibilities of Changemakers?

  • To participate in initial training and ongoing development, with supervision and peer support, to build the knowledge and confidence required for the role
  • To work with the Progression and Attainment Manager, relevant Deans, Associate Deans and Programme Directors to identify areas for Changemakers’ work
  • To work directly with identified course teams to review and co-develop curricula and teaching practices, from student induction up until final assessment.

  • To participate in key quality and enhancement processes, like reapproval and AEM, and contribute to evaluation and reporting for college committees. 
  • To liaise with student reps, the Student Union, and directly with students as needed, for Changemakers work to be informed by students
  • To contribute to college and university wide anti-racism and decolonisation initiatives.
By what criteria are Changemakers selected?
   Essential Desirable
Knowledge   Knowledge of student and academic life at CCW and of inclusion and equity.   Knowledge of decolonisation and anti-racism. 
 Experience Recent experience of a relevant undergraduate course at CCW (as listed above).  Lived experience of racialisation and/or racism. 
 Communication Skills  Communicates effectively in person and online using UAL platforms, and be able to express concerns and ideas confidently.  Confident speaking to staff and students in 1-1 and groups, and adapting messages for diverse audiences. 
 Teamwork  Works collaboratively in a team.   Works across different academic and professional groups
 Creativity and Problem Solving  Suggests practical solutions to new or unique problems.  Supports less confident people to participate in problem-solving.
