Job Description

Purpose of the role 

 

The UAL Online production team creates innovative, accessible, and visually appealing learning content across UAL's breadth of creative arts and creative industry subjects. The team is anticipating a peak period of work and requires additional, flexible design support during this time. 

 

The purpose of the role being to assist UAL Online's Visual Designers in the sourcing and creation of imagery, graphics, animations, and illustrations. The objective being to create engaging and motivating digital materials, enabling our students to develop their creative practices. Working with the team, you will also support the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), ensuring that the look and feel of UAL Online content has clarity and consistency. 

 

To do this, you must have strong communication and collaboration skills, have the ability to work across multiple projects effectively, and be able to manage your own time.  

 

Key duties and responsibilities 

 

    • Creating original graphics, infographics and diagrams in response to design briefs which inspire students and align with set style guides.
    • Sourcing graphics, images and other designs from image banks.
    •  Assist in the accurate cataloguing and storing of assets following a set process. 
    • Respond to feedback and develop designs where needed. 

Personal Specification

Experience, knowledge and qualifications

    • Undergraduate degree, preferably in a design-based subject.
    • Experience working with typography and applying key principles of hierarchy to structure information in a logical, easy to follow way.
    •  Experience designing digital materials to agreed style guides.
    •  Ability to visualise complex concepts and information in a clear and visually appealing manner.
    • In-depth knowledge of visual design good practice, including a detailed understanding of digital accessibility and inclusive content.
    •  Adept with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and related packages.
    •  Experience using After Effects to create engaging motion graphics. (desirable) 
    • An understanding of fully online and/or blended Higher Education, including working with VLEs such as Moodle. (desirable) 

 

Communication skills 

    • Communicates effectively orally, in writing and/or using visual media. 

 

Planning and managing resources 

    • Plans, prioritises and organises work to achieve objectives on time. 
    • Good house-keeping skills, keeping files organised and following established processes. 

 

Teamwork 

    • Works collaboratively in a team or with different professional groups, ensuring the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are upheld.
