UAL are looking for an experienced collage artist who can create 2 collages for a Black History Month campaign, which can be used across a range of channels (print and digital assets) and appeal to various audiences (students, staff and external).
This position is open to all, however, we particularly welcome/encourage applicants from the Black community and those from ethnic minority backgrounds, as they are under-represented within UAL at this level and bring valuable perspectives and deeper understanding of the experiences of the community.
You will be working closely with the Creative and the Communications teams who are collaborating on this project. Please note that all materials will be provided for the collage workshop.
The campaign aims to:

Recognise, celebrate and share the contributions that the Black community have made throughout history in the UK.

Spotlight the voices and work our Black students, staff, alumni and partners.

Spread awareness and educate others on the impact of Black heritage and culture.

Be used as a platform to celebrate Black creatives beyond Black History Month.
The required collages should:

Represent Black history and culture respectfully and in a visually impactful and recognisable way.

Have longevity to be used throughout the year, beyond Black History Month.

Respond to a specific prompt that will be shared a few days ahead of the workshop describing the Black History Month theme of the year: ‘Honouring our communities’.
Duties and Responsibilities
Principal responsibilities

To attend a full day, in-person collage making workshop in London on Tuesday 21 July 2026, and develop artwork responding to a specific prompt.

To help to materialise the concept and creative direction developed by the Creative team into a final deliverable that can be used for assets production.

To creatively problem solve and critically assess the design brief.

To create a variety of design options if requested.

To be able to receive constructive feedback and apply that to develop work.

To participate in an interview with Communications colleagues to talk about your involvement and the work created. (around 15–20 minutes)

Able to work with diverse groups and to represent their stories and perspectives with sensitivity and clarity.
