Purpose of the role
Studio Assistants maintain a conducive studio environment that is enabling and supportive for all students and staff in the Graphic Communication Design programme at Central Saint Martins. Studio Assistants provide signposting to locations/resources/people, answers to frequently asked questions, maintain and tidy the studio environment, provide setup for teaching and support with events.
Note that this role does not involve providing any academic support, but it could entail directing students to appropriate support, resources, or course materials.
There are a number of studio assistants who cover a rota. Five Studio Assistants will each be assigned one day per week on most term-time weeks. There may also be opportunity for additional hours where needs arise.
These roles will initially be for six months, with the potential to be extended for a further six months.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Maintain and participate in improving the studio environment, provide setup for teaching.
- Check classroom AV setups and liaise with colleagues regarding reporting estates, AV and IT faults.
- Provide signposting to people/locations/resources/course materials.
- Provide answers to frequently asked questions.
- Provide general support to staff during end-of-year showcase, such as with hanging and AV.
- Help organising teaching supplies and staff offices.
- Support with specific events and represent the course in an ambassadorial way e.g. at open days.

Working Hours
- During term weeks, usual working hours for this role will be six hours per week, between 11am–1pm and 2pm–6pm on a given day to be negotiated.
- Outside of term weeks, additional hours may be available on an ad-hoc basis.

- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role. Training will be provided as appropriate.
