Job Description

What is Peer Learning? 

Peer learning supports student transition and progression. It is designed to help students feel part of a community, increase academic confidence, agency, and engagement. 

 

LCC peer mentors provide support to students on their course in the years below. They help students make connections across different levels of study, support student wellbeing, and promote diverse and inclusive student communities. Mentors can help students to navigate student-life, work towards learning development goals, and help create learning environments that support a multiplicity of learning styles. 

 

How and when do LCC Peer Mentors work? 

Mentors provide support through one-to-one mentoring and student-led workshops.  

    • One-to-one mentoring is offered through online or face to face meetings 
    • Student-led workshops take place on specific units on the course, or as embedded and stand-alone workshops 
    • Peer mentors work throughout the academic year 

 

Duties and responsibilities: 

    • To complete initial peer mentor training (online and onsite) to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required for the role 
    • To provide mentoring support through one to one meetings and student-led workshops 
    • To contribute to transition, induction and social activities throughout the year 
    • To engage with ongoing training and development opportunities 
    • To promote peer learning on undergraduate courses through a variety of networks 
    • To record mentoring activity and provide feedback to staff 
    • To maintain up to date knowledge of opportunities, services and specialist support relating to the course / college   
    • To contribute to the peer mentoring Teams site  

Personal Specification

This vacancy is open to all LCC Undergraduate students who will be in their second or final year in the 2024-2025 academic year.
 
Excellent communication and active listening skills.
Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail.
Capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues and students.
Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards.
Enthusiasm for helping students succeed and promoting peer learning.
