Job Description

LCF are seeking to appoint a Digital Design and 3D Print Specialist Technician for the LCF’s Digital Learning Lab on a 0.4 basis for a period of 6 months.

LCF’s Digital Learning Lab has an ambitious vision to explore futures of digital for the human experience, within the production and consumption of fashion in its broadest context. Working across academic, industry, research and student led agendas within the University, the Digital Learning Lab seeks to capture and inspire imaginations, providing a fashion technology lens on emerging futures of digital experience.
 
The role seeks to provide technical specialism for the Digital Learning Lab and associated areas to include hardware procurement and maintenance, delivery of technical workshops and building student engagement within the DLL and contributing to student projects. The role critically seeks to appoint a candidate able to provide dynamic visionary future thinking in the form of student inductions and technical workshops to inspire and guide on the application of the evolving space of where digital collides with fashion.
 
The Role:
To provide professional expertise, guidance and advice and contribute to the delivery of academic activities within the College.
To provide support for student learning, informal and formal training and instruction, and the development of proficiency with 3D software (Rhinoceros 3D), 3D print and other digital technologies.
To contribute critical input to student concept and expressive/creative intention, including giving feedback to students and contributing to student formative assessments, with reference to appropriate learning outcomes of the course or project.

Personal Specification

A degree or an equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge in 3D software and operation of 3D printers.
Industry experience in digital design and rapid prototyping and experience in educational delivery. 

Experience in McNeel Rhinoceros 3D, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya and manipulation of digital 3D files into 3D printable toolpaths. 

Operation and maintenance of FDM and resin 3D printers, specifically Makerbot printing and FormLabs Form2 printers. 

Experience of working with footwear, jewellery and other making processes is highly desirable.
