Job Description

We are looking for student support with the recruitment of both a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer post for the BA Production Arts for Screen (re-named Art Direction and Visual Effects) course. The interviews are planned for Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th July. We are open to students who can support either one or both of these dates.

We would like to invite you to support a series of 30-minute online Micro Teaching sessions for each selected candidate and help us to decide by giving your feedback on the teaching.

The micro teaching session

  • Candidates will have been given a learning outcome and some contextual information about the course that they would be recruited to teach on.  You will be provided with a copy of the briefing that applicants have been sent.
  • We don’t know how they will plan the session, so keep an open mind and go along with what you are asked you to do, answering questions and contributing when invited to do so.
  • At the end of each micro teaching session, complete a feedback form independently without discussing it with your fellow students.

Summarising feedback from all the micro-teaching sessions

When all the sessions are finished and each of you have individually completed your feedback on each candidate, you will have the opportunity to discuss all of the sessions for comparison.  It’s important to remember you don’t all have to agree.  You may be joined by a member of staff for this discussion.  If not, please elect a chair who can summarise the main points from your discussion.

Read through the feedback form in advance. It focuses on your experience of the session: how engaging you found it, how clearly you understood any explanations, and the purpose of the session.

Some candidates may already be working at your College and, if you know them, please put aside your prior knowledge of them and base your feedback just on the micro teaching session.

Your feedback is an important part of the selection process, providing evidence to the selection panel members who consider it carefully and take responsibility for the final decision.

Your feedback is anonymous in that you are not asked to give your name on the feedback form.

However, please also keep in mind that your written feedback may well be seen by the candidate.  Under data protection law, they have a right to request to see it.

Personal Specification

Ideally we are looking for students who are currently studying/have recently graduated from the BA Production Arts for Screen course. You will need to be available on 29th/30th July and have access to a laptop to join the micro-teach sessions virtually.

We are an equal opportunities employer and positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
