Job Description

UAL is looking for a graphic designers with research and design experience to support with the delivery of outputs for the UAL pilot project Design Clinic: Building Design and Social Literacy. This role best suits a proficient, enthusiastic designer who can work to a brief and deliver a compelling visual identity. This role is suitable for candidates who are currently completing an MA in Graphic Design and related courses, with previous experience working on government or council documents, and who can demonstrate a keen interest in design for social engagement, community work, and collaboration.  The successful candidate is required to attend three in-person workshops, each lasting three hours, and produce finalise outputs later. The dates are Friday 24 April, Friday 8 May, and Friday 22 May (these are subject to change).   
 
 Responsibilities include:
  • Developing and implementing the required branding.
  • Designing templates for flyers, posters, and digital materials.
  • Creating a cohesive and visually appealing project.
  • Work closely with the research team and other designers 
  • Participate in onboarding and review sessions 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and organisers to ensure design consistency.
  • Conduct research on areas outlined by the research team
  • Working in groups, designers will produce a series of communication design interventions based on the research
  • Ensure these designs are legible and relevant to the community they target
  • Present finalised concepts to research team
  • Deliver work to agreed milestones 

Personal Specification

Ideal candidates should possess the following qualities: 
  • Innovative designer with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma
  • Experience in graphic design is essential.
  • Experience working within design for social engagement and/or designing with communities 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining design concepts and feedback.
  • Ability to test with clients
  • Ability to produce work in different formats (print and digital)
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused
  • Proactive and able to work with other designers
  • Interested in design for social engagement
