Job Description

The Digital Content and Engagement Coordinator will support the AKO Storytelling Institute team in delivering digital communications and marketing the institute events and activities. The role will focus on engaging both external audiences and internal stakeholders for the institute.

This is a standalone role in the Institute but you will work alongside the UAL Communications Department. The post holder will use their creative skills to develop and/or coordinate the production of impactful content that showcases the Institute’s work, public events and research activities. This content will be delivered across our social media channels, newsletter, website and print materials.

The successful candidate will be an organised, enthusiastic and hard-working team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will also be digitally savvy, have excellent IT knowledge and skills. Excellent command of English plus meticulous attention to detail is essential, as are good researching skills.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Independently develop and produce engaging content for different platforms, including social media posts, blog articles, and website updates.
  • Conduct research to support the development of campaigns and content staying updated on the latest trends in storytelling, digital content and audience engagement
  • Write clear, accessible, and audience-appropriate copy in line with the Institute's brand and tone for internal and external stakeholders
  • Create visually appealing materials using design tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, and other design platforms
  • Manage the design, copy, content and delivery of the Institute’s newsletter using Mailchimp and ensuring consistency
  • Monitor the Institute inbox to ensure enquiries are responded to in a timely and professional manner
  • Produce video and multimedia content for storytelling purposes
  • Commission and coordinate external content creators and designers if required overseeing the entire production process
  • Understand operational needs in event delivery promoting the Institute’s public events, Labs, and the Fellowship program to stakeholders, analysing the performance of digital campaigns and suggesting improvements
  • Develop and manage internal relationships which promote professional practice and collaboration.
  • Manage allocated budgets monitoring and producing reports for the Storytelling team.
  • Provide specialised support to the team as required on content and outputs
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for campaigns and events, bringing fresh ideas to the table

Personal Specification

Experience, knowledge and qualifications

  • Degree in Communications/Journalism/Writing related subject or relevant equivalent experience
  • Trained in use of SquizMatrix (mandatory). Preferable if post holder has existing editing rights to the platform, but this is not required.
  • Experience creating content for websites, social media, blogs and newsletters ideally in a culture or Higher Education setting. As well as experience of basic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp) and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent ability to write in plain English adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
  • Strong editorial skills with attention to detail in proofreading and content development.
  • Advanced organisational, planning and project management skills, managing multiple tasks and deadlines, with the ability to think ahead, prioritise and work flexibly and accurately when under pressure
  • Delivering high-quality and visually impactful communication materials.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Creative with a good eye for what makes something visually appealing and impactful
  • Uses initiative and creativity to suggest creative approaches to storytelling and engagement.
  • Organised, enthusiastic and hard-working team player who works collaboratively in a team, ensuring the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are upheld

Desirable criteria:

  • Expertise in film editing processes
  • Good knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or other design and video editing packages
