About the role

London College of Fashion is seeking a Support Technician to provide fixed-term maternity cover for our Styling & Prop Store ( Fixed-term maternity cover, initially 6 months with the possibility of extension for a further 6 months, part of the SMC Technical Service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for styling and garment handling to join a busy, creative technical team supporting students and staff across our design and styling courses.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and upkeep of the styling and prop store, maintaining an accurate inventory, and providing hands-on support and advice to students and staff working with styling and garment-related subjects. You will play a key role in ensuring the store remains a well-organised, welcoming and efficient resource that supports teaching, learning and creative practice.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the styling and prop store on a daily basis, ensuring cleanliness, order and compliance with Health and Safety regulations
  • Build and regularly update the catalogue of garments and props to ensure items are easy to locate and access
  • Support students with bookings, collections of items, and demonstrations as needed
  • Provide advice and guidance to students and staff on styling and garment handling within your area of expertise
  • Maintain items in the store to prolong their lifespan and usability
  • Collaborate with the wider technical team to deliver resources according to priorities set by the Technical Coordinator
  • Contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of teaching and learning facilities

Personal Specification

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in styling, garment and prop handling, including repairing, storing and cataloguing items
  • Knowledge of garment and prop maintenance techniques
  • Previous experience in a similar styling or prop store environment; customer-facing experience is highly desirable
  • Experience maintaining inventory or cataloguing systems
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel in particular) and experience using booking systems such as ORB is highly desirable
  • Strong customer service skills, with the confidence to engage positively with students and staff on a daily basis
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across the technical team
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and arrange workload effectively in a busy store environment
  • A genuine passion for fashion and styling, and enthusiasm for supporting students' creative development
  • Physical capability for a hands-on role, including lifting and working at heights
