Workshop Assistants x 2

‘Honouring Our Community’ will be celebrating the Black community and history in Camberwell & South London throughout October. We have invited alumni from our Community Exchanges programme to develop and deliver creative workshops in Camberwell Space, details below outline the workshops and dates.

We’re looking for two people to support all the workshops happening across the month, so please state you are available for the outlined dates in your cover letter. As this opportunity is part of Black History Month, we are specifically prioritising those who identify as being Black & mixed heritage, and we are also keen to hear from you if you are local to Camberwell College & South London. The Community Engagement team regularly work with arts temps in a workshop support capacity so this is a great opportunity to develop some of your skills and potential for more work with the team in the future.

 Folasade’s Workshops:

• Weds 7^th October 10-12 (9am-1pm for events support to set-up and pack down)
• Monday 12^th October 10-12 (9am-1pm for events support to set-up and pack down)
• A 3^rd workshop is being proposed TBC

  Activity: Young people from local secondary schools in Southwark are invited to make contributions that honour a Black person who has positively impacted them, their local community or is an inspiration to them. Their contributions associated with honouring their person can either be:

• A concertina zine
• A Poster
• A portrait through drawing, collage or mixed media
• Piece of writing e.g. poem, fact, letter, memory, quote, message, typographic)

Maya’s workshops:

• Wednesday 21^st October 6-8pm (5-9pm for set-up and pack down time)
• Monday 26^th October 10-1pm (9-2pm for set-up and pack down)

  Activity: What stories live around your kitchen table? What stories have been passed down, left untold, or are waiting for you to write them?

  AMPLIFY is a creative writing workshop inspired by Black History Month, celebrating the rich, complex and powerful stories of London’s people and communities.

  Together, we’ll uncover family stories, dig into community histories and explore the moments, memories and experiences that have shaped us. You might transform a personal experience into powerful poetry, memoir or a story or simply put words on the page for the first time.

  What you’ll be doing
  As workshop assistants, you’ll support the Facilitators to set-up and clear away the space, welcome people into it, chat to participants and support them where they might need it with the making and engagement process – getting materials, chat through ideas and just generally make sure people are comfortable.

  Applying

  For applying, all we need is a cover letter outlining any experience relevant to this role you have, and why you are applying. Please also state you are available to work on the dates provided, if you do not do this your application may not reach interview.

  We will hold informal 20 minute interviews for shortlisted candidates, so that you have a chance to meet the team and potentially the facilitators.

   

• Experience in delivering or supporting workshops is desirable, but not essential

• Local to south London desirable
• Identifies as Black or Mixed Heritage
