Showcase Video Participant

Showcase is entering its fifth year. Created in response to the pandemic in 2020, the always-on platform presents the latest work across the University in art, communication, design, fashion, media, performance and creative computing. It has since grown as a product to include more student profiles, reach wider audience groups and host year-round campaign activity to live on past the in-person graduate shows. 

For employers, Showcase offers an exceptional directory of new creativity. UAL have built prominent industry connections through Showcase to improve the reputation of the platform and to connect students with employment opportunities, including notable collection collaborations with Sadler’s Wells, Thames & Hudson and Mother Design. 

With this and the refreshed identity in mind, we are creating a new video to market the platform externally and build brand awareness around Showcase.  

We are looking for confident individuals to feature in this exciting and experimental promotional video, who are comfortable in front of the camera. We welcome students and graduates from all disciplines, backgrounds, genders and age groups. We would like to make this role accessible for all courses, even if you think your practice might not translate well on camera, including coders, dancers, animators, ceramicists, journalists, videographers, and designers – all are encouraged to apply.  

Note: you do not need a profile on Showcase to feature in the video.  

• What will I have to do: in your 2-hour time slot, you will be in a pre-selected College or studio space using your medium to respond to a series of prompts on camera. You will be given instructions on how to perform your practice, or another, on set.  

• What will I have to wear: part of the performance is looking like you are busy working in a studio, so we would like you to look the part by considering what you would usually wear. For example, if your subject area would involve wearing a paint-covered apron or a soldering shield please bring these along as part of your attire. Please wear no stripes or well-known visible brand logos on clothing, and no UAL lanyards. 

• When is it happening: you will be assigned one of the dates between 15-17 May, so please apply for this job knowing you are available for all. We will notify you should we extend this to further dates.

• Where is it happening: location TBC depending on your role – it will either be at a UAL site or an external studio space. We have factored budget to allow for travel to be included in your timesheets (2 hours). 

• Will I be paid for my time: yes, you will be paid for 4 hours of your time (travel included) at STP Rate 1. 

• Where will the video be shared: the video will be hosted on Showcase landing page, our UAL and College social channels and some external channels as part of marketing activity.
