The UAL Admissions team require extra support to handle increased enquiries and manage applications that arrive during the Clearing period from early July until the end of August. At this time of year, applicants who are not holding a place at a UK university apply for remaining places and expect a quicker turnaround and prompt decisions to allow them to make their plans for study in September.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the Clearing inbox and Clearing applications on SITS, UAL's student records system. Working alongside the Assistant Heads of Admissions for Pre-Degree and Undergraduate courses, you will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Work with accuracy at all times, understanding that errors made during the Clearing process can lead to serious consequences for applicants
- Get quickly up to speed on Clearing and UCAS processes and regulations and work closely with your counterpart and other members of the Admissions team to ensure information provided is always accurate
- Work closely with the other role holder to manage the applications and inbox effectively and report any issues or queries that require escalation promptly
- Work directly with academic colleagues who are reviewing portfolios and borderline qualifications
- Provide accurate admissions decisions to Clearing applicants with reference to written guidance and advice within the team
- Handle difficult conversations and queries tactfully, escalating to a manager where required
- Provide support on phones or livechat if required on A-Level results day and potentially the following 3 days handling new applications
UAL expect to handle several hundred Clearing applications with an expected decision turnaround of 24 hours where the application has been correctly completed. Due to the stressful nature of securing a last-minute place, applicants, parents and agents will expect quicker than usual response times, making Clearing a busy period for the Admissions team, who will also be working to help other applicants receive their visas and have their offers confirmed. These roles will be essential to the smooth running of the team during this period.
