Research Assistant - Films

A unique opportunity has arisen to support a research project exploring Classical reception in the filmmaking of Stanley Kubrick, working directly with materials from the Stanley Kubrick Archive.

Role Summary

You will assist a researcher in uncovering and analysing archival materials that reflect how Kubrick's films engage with themes from Classical mythology, literature, and history.

Main responsibilities:

• Conduct archive research at the Stanley Kubrick Archive, based on specific questions and catalogue references

• Write up short research reflections (approx. 300–500 words each) on selected documents (e.g., screenplays, correspondence, production materials)

• Undertake targeted secondary research in libraries (e.g., UAL, BFI Reuben Library)

• Attend virtual meetings with the lead researcher to discuss findings and develop insights

Desirable (not essential):

• Prior experience with archival research

• Familiarity with the Stanley Kubrick Archive or BFI resources

• Academic or personal interest in Classical mythology, ancient history, or literary reception in film

• A detail-oriented and independent UAL student with strong research and writing skills

• Interest in film studies, classical reception, or archive-based research

• Ability to work flexibly around your own schedule and the Archive's availability
