Job Description

This role within the core Events team at CSM, supports a busy annual event programme featuring lectures, exhibitions, theatre productions and festivals. We welcome 100,000 external guests a year alongside running the student bar and reception. There is never a quiet day at CSM. 


When on duty on the bar or for an event you will be responsible at any given time for: 


Events 

  • Welcoming, engaging, and directing guests with relevant information associated to the college and events taking place at that time 

  • Assisting access needs guests to and from the venue 

  • Familiarising yourself with the event layout, the content and any relevent important information to pass on to guests 

  • Serving with a smile and being friendly to all those you meet 

  • Ensuring all access routes to and from the venue are always kept clear and report anything impeding access and egress to Duty Manager 

  • Directing and supporting guests in the event of an evacuation in coordination with the Duty Manager 

  • Supporting new staff and Event Temps with procedures for running an event or the bar under the direction of the Duty Manager 

  • Support Q&As and roundtables 

  • Seat latecomers in a discrete manner to avoid disturbing the running of events 

  • Scanning tickets or managing guest lists for events 

  • Adhering to the all black dress code 


Bar 

  • Serving drinks to guests 

  • Completing all cleaning duties on the cleaning list during each shift 

  • Checking IDs for anyone who appears under the age of 25 years of age 

  • Handling tokens and card payments 

  • Collecting and washing glasses 

  • Wiping tables 

  • Reminding guests of our policies within the bar such as not reserving tables with bags and coats, not leaving rubbish outside, leaving respectfully and being mindful of our neighbours. 

  • Being proactive during down time. Thinking, what can I do that might help the next person who is working after me, or what could I do to make our service better? 

  • Familiarising yourself with the ask for Angela policy 

  • Adhering to the all black dress code 


Training: 

  • Full training will be provided but prior experience is desirable  

  • You will be expected to keep up to date with current procedures and to attend training sessions or meetings with the Operations Manager when requested (plenty of notice will be given for this) 


Personal Specification
