About the Public Engagement Team

Public engagement describes the myriad of ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with the public. Engagement is, by definition, a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit.

- National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement

Established in 2023, the Public Engagement team for Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts (CCW) has a remit to develop and implement a strategy for long-term, evidence-based public engagement across CCW, as well as deliver a programme of inclusive public engagement.

As part of our work we have two stands of teams within Public Engagement – The Public Programme team, and the Community Engagement Team.

The Public Programme Team: look after the spaces and run events and exhibitions at Camberwell & Chelsea Space throughout the year.

The Community Engagement team: work with local communities and internal (academics, staff etc) and sometimes have activities with the local community around Camberwell & Chelsea colleges. They also run the Community Exchanges programme which will be running this year.

What we are looking for

We want to hear from photographers who have experience in exhibition photography, that might mean taking pictures of work in situ, as well as at events in the exhibition space. You should display an ability to photograph in different lighting, as both Camberwell and Chelsea Space have large windows and some challenging lighting situations.

We are also looking for people who have experience photographing events in a range of settings & lighting. Examples of events might be; Private Views, Community Workshops, Performances, Talks and Panel discussions. We work with lots of communities and members of the public, so it’s important that everyone working our events promotes our teams values and ethics. We are an inclusive community and expect everyone to act in a way that is always respectful.

Ideally you are flexible, warm and confident. Sometimes we will share details of a job, but aren’t able to be there in person ourselves, so someone with good initiative and people skills is a plus!

You might be able to do both, or you are more skilled at one of these areas, either way we’re keen to hear from you. Please send us relevant examples in your portfolio and provide some information about your skills and experience to date that makes you suitable for the role.

Application Process

Please send us a portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills in either or both Exhibition and Event photography. We would also like a covering letter telling us about your experience and skills in this area to date.
