Design Elements
Designs should be eye catching, have a wide appeal, and fit the curve of a hand fan. We’re looking for designs which showcase the creativity of the UAL community, match our branding style, and feature elements of celebration and success.
Purpose
It can be very warm at graduation! Hence why we’re commissioning this artwork to be printed on a hand fan, something which graduates can use on the day and take home as a keepsake of their time at UAL. The fans should be visually enticing to encourage graduates to come and speak to the careers team during the event.
Audience
The primary audience for this commission is the graduating class of 2026. Ideally we’d like to avoid a direct reference to the date so that the fans can be re-printed as needed, although we’re not opposed to it completely if it forms part of your design.
The secondary audiences are UAL staff – in particular tutors/course leaders who we want to signpost their students to the services offered by Careers & Employability.
Background information
Careers and Employability empowers UAL students and graduates to make a living doing what they love.
We offer practical events, mentoring, funding, advice and temporary work to support UAL students and graduates with their freelance work, artistic practice, business or career.
Services include:
-
One-to-one advice.
-
Job opportunities and paid internships.
-
Mentoring.
-
Funding.
-
Student-led initiatives.
-
Opportunities to showcase and exhibit work.
-
Support is free and accessible to all of our students.
As we aren’t part of a UAL course that produces creative work, we often struggle to find images that represent what our department does. We’re therefore looking to commission a series of new illustrations for use in our marketing and communication materials.
