Job Description

Student/Alumni Call-Out – UAL Places Available Campaign

UAL are looking for current students or alumni from the following courses to take part in a short-form video project supporting UAL’s Places Available campaign:

  • BA Theatre and Performance Design (WIM)

  • BA Textile Design (CHE)

  • BA Photography (CAM)

  • BA Jewellery Design (CSM)

  • BA Fashion Imaging and Illustration (LCF)

  • BSc Data Science and AI (CCI)

  • BA Graphic and Media Design (LCC)

  • MA Puppetry

  • MA Curating and Collections

  • MA Interior and Spatial Design

  • MArch Architecture

  • MA Artefact

  • MSc Creative Robotics

  • MA Journalism


The Concept

Participants will create a simple, hands-on activity that reflects their course discipline. The activity should:

  • Be process-led and practical

  • Clearly relate to your course

  • Be achievable within one hour

  • Work visually from a top-down camera angle (hands only, no face shown)

Examples might include making, assembling, designing, constructing, crafting or testing a small outcome (e.g. creating a lipstick, designing a circuit board, constructing a small model, etc.).


Filming Details

  • Filming will take place on campus (location confirmed) on 1 or 2 April

  • You will be filmed from a top-down angle while creating your chosen outcome

  • Hands only; no speaking required

  • The activity must be completed within a maximum of one hour

  • Footage will be edited into a 60-second YouTube Shorts-style video


Payment

  • One hour paid participation

  • Up to £50 materials budget available if required


How to Apply

  • Course title, year of study and college

  • What you would like to create on camera and how it relates to your course (skills, techniques or processes demonstrated)

  • A step-by-step outline of the process (maximum 10 bullet points)

  • A list of materials required and whether they need to be purchased specifically for filming

  • An estimated materials cost (up to £50 can be covered)

Personal Specification

Essential

  • Are a Student/Alumni on one of the selected priority courses
  • Are confident demonstrating practical work on camera (hands only)
  • Can propose a clear, process led making activity
  • Can complete the activity within approximately one hour
  • Are available to film on campus on either 1 or 2 April

Desirable

  • An understanding of how to present making processes visually
  • Confidence working within a filmed setting
