With Ramadan underway, we’re reaching out to students who may be observing the month, as we’d love to mark the occasion across our social channels. If this is something you’d be interested in, we’d love to collaborate on a short reel for UAL’s main Instagram and TikTok channels (posted in collaboration with you and your college).
We’re looking for a diary-style reel (up to one minute) captured during Ramadan. While you may choose to share how you balance fasting with your studies, we recognise that Ramadan is about much more than fasting. You might instead focus on what the month means to you more broadly — reflection, community, discipline, gratitude, spirituality, or how it shapes your mindset as an artist.
We’d be interested in hearing:
-
What Ramadan means to you personally
-
How you balance your studies or creative work during the month (fasting or otherwise)
-
How Ramadan influences your perspective, creative process, or artistic practice
The intention is to spotlight the diversity of our community and create authentic, relatable, positive storytelling. Many of our followers value learning about different lived experiences at UAL.
Ideally, the reel would be shared during Ramadan (before 19 March), the earlier the better. The latest possible deadline would be 23 March as a retrospective.
This is a paid opportunity at a Grade 3 Arts Temps rate (inclusive of holiday pay), for up to 10 hours of work.
Filming Guidelines
-
Film vertically (1080 × 1920), in 4K at 30fps or 60fps
-
Wipe your lens before filming
-
Use natural or diffused light where possible; avoid standing with your back to a window
-
Capture a “day in your life” across multiple locations (e.g. home, campus, library, gym, other spaces)
-
When speaking to camera, avoid standing flat against a wall — leave space and consider your background
-
Keep footage steady; use a tripod if available
-
Remove your phone/camera case when filming
Audio
-
A lapel mic is helpful but not essential
-
Record in a quiet space, close windows, and set your phone to Do Not Disturb
-
Minimise background noise and plosive sounds
File Sharing
Please do not send files via email, as this can compress footage. Instead, share via WeTransfer or SharePoint.
Don’t forget to send your Instagram and TikTok handles so we can tag you and add you as a collaborator.
