Job Description

Location: Chelsea College of Art

Days: 22 hours per week over 4 days.

Mon 12pm – 5pm – includes 1 hour 1-1 (12-1pm) – 5 hours

Tues 10am – 3pm – includes 2 hours 1-1 (1-3pm) – 5 hours

Weds 10am – 4pm – includes 1 hour 1-1 (3-4pm) – 6 hours

Fri 10am – 4pm – includes 1 hour 1-1 (3-4pm) – 6 hours

Tasks:

Supporting a student on BA Interior Design.

The student experiences  seizures and slow processing. Their Study Assistant will;

  • Support with notetaking in class
  • Summarise instructions and help create prompts to aid memory
  • Provide a 1 hour debrief after class to repeat information and check understanding.
  • Support communication with relevant staff
  • Accompany the student on campus
  • In the event of a seizure call for a First Aider if needed

Study Assistants are not expected to provide first aid.

Personal Specification

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

Specialist Knowledge / Qualifications

  • General understanding of the academic cycle in Further and Higher Education.

  • Willingness to attend training required by the UAL Disability Service, including Disability Equality Training.

  • An understanding of the importance and limitations of confidentiality.

  • An understanding of the importance of professional boundaries.

Relevant Experience

  • Successful experience of collaborative working.

  • Experience of adapting communication style to meet individual requirements.

  • Experience of providing support or guidance.

  • Experience in either of the following areas:

    • Art and design sector.

    • Further or Higher Education sector.

Communication Skills

  • Communicates effectively orally, in writing and/or using visual media.

Research, Teaching and Learning

  • Effectively delivers basic training or briefings to support understanding or learning.

Planning and Managing Resources

  • Plans, prioritises and organises work to achieve objectives on time.

Teamwork

  • Works collaboratively in a team or with different professional groups.

Student Experience or Customer Service

  • Provides a positive and responsive student or customer service.

Creativity, Innovation and Problem Solving

  • Uses initiative or creativity to resolve day-to-day problems.
