Job Description

Key duties and responsibilities 

  • To be a point of contact for the communications department at LCF, answering staff and student enquiries, being professional and always welcoming, and putting the staff and student experience first 
  • To identify news and story opportunities and gather information to create communications content that aligns with the communications strategy and disseminate it to the most appropriate audiences using different channels and platforms.
  • To monitor the LCF Internal Communications mailbox and the LCF editorial planner, ensuring both are up to date and that all requests are triaged in a timely manner
  • To work closely with external communications colleagues such as the media, social media digital communications teams to collaboratively plan college content for external audiences (for example filming, livestreaming, staff write-up, or working with student content creators). To agree together who creates and disseminates these pieces of content
  • To attend team meetings with the LCF communications team, sometimes in the office
  • To help keep files up to date and saved in the SharePoint such as comms trackers
  • To write, edit and proofread copy for newsletters and other channels such as Canvas (staff intranet), college digital screens, some website pages
  • To ensure all content has consistency in tone and style
  • To respond to requests and enquiries from staff groups and ArtsSU (Students’ Union) across LCF to source and prioritise internal communications stories and to proactively develop a relationship with LCF’s ArtsSU Officer and with the SU overall
  • To support the College Communications and Engagement Manager and Staff and Student Communications and Engagement teams with assistance in delivering college engagement activities such as informal staff community building, Student support and Welcome Week where required.
  • To proactively flag anything that could cause risk to the University's reputation and escalate any concerns to manager
  • To gather information on forthcoming events and projects from across the college for the  Comms forward planning grid, working closely with the Head of Communications & Engagement
  • To liaise with Student and Staff Communications and engagement team and report back to LCF Comms teams colleagues, sharing updates in a timely fashion. To proactively liaise with UAL Student Comms on Welcome campaigns. To communicate local student engagement activity liaising with the LCF Academic Strategy: College Education team.

Personal Specification

  • Experience using content management systems (Squiz and Unily specifically an advantage)
  • Experience in building constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in delivering high-quality and visually impactful communication materials
  • Experience using Mailchimp or other email campaign platforms would be advantageous
  • Degree or transferrable skills in a Communications/Writing/Journalism/Content related subject 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent ability to write in plain English for various channels and audiences with the ability to adapt messages to ensure it is clear and accessible.
  • Can provide evidence of experience of writing stories, blogs, social media posts or similar content.
  • Understands the best tone of voice to use when communicating to a diverse audience and when using different communication channels.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, has excellent organisational skills and can think ahead and prioritise.
  • IT skills including experience with the full Microsoft Office package
  • Ability to build productive and enduring relationships to strengthen working relationships and foster collaboration.
