Study Assistant supporting a student on BA Fine Art

Location: CSM

Days:

• Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays (typically 12–5pm)

Tasks: Working with a year 3 BA Fine Art student:

• Assisting with planning and checking progress.
• Helping to reach out to other staff and services as needed.
• Supporting the student in workshop spaces.
• Breaking down practical tasks into steps.
• Giving reminders about safe working in the space.
• Acting as the student’s hands to perform some tasks under their direction.
• Practical tasks may include use of a Stanley knife when cutting board, hot wire when cutting foam, and in future when exploring other media, wood and metal workshop tools.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

Specialist Knowledge / Qualifications

• General understanding of the academic cycle in Further and Higher Education.

• Willingness to attend training required by the UAL Disability Service, including Disability Equality Training.

• An understanding of the importance and limitations of confidentiality.

• An understanding of the importance of professional boundaries.

Relevant Experience

• Successful experience of collaborative working.

• Experience of adapting communication style to meet individual requirements.

• Experience of providing support or guidance.

• Experience in either of the following areas:

  • Art and design sector.

  • Further or Higher Education sector.
